Town have sought to find a player to fill this gap in the squad since last summer, but despite interest in Claus Jensen, Gert Verheyen, Hassan Kachloul and at least one other unnamed player no-one has been signed. |

The Mark Kerr trial as reported on Saturday and yesterday has it seems already gone ahead. The 19-year-old Scot spent time with Town last week and is said to have impressed in training. However, the Leeds link too seems very real and Town may have a fight on their hands to sign the Falkirk man. |

Town midfielder Jim Magilton is in the Northern Ireland squad which plays Yugoslavia at Windsor Park two days before Town's Premiership kick-off with Spurs. Town manager George Burley said he was unhappy at the timing: "It is not ideal preparation having Jim away for a few days in the week leading up to our first game of the new season." He also praised the Ulsterman saying he was playig some of his best football of his career. |

Finally something seems to be actually happening with regards to the Richard Wright situation. The keeper is reported in some places to be about to sign a new deal, however Celtic have expressed an interest in the keeper. George Burley said of the inquiry from Martin O'Neill and the possibility of a new deal being signed: "I've spoken to Martin, there has been no offer as yet but the truth is that I don't want to sell Wright and we are in the process of offering him a new deal. I'm very hopeful he'll sign in the next 24 hours and, if he does, there will be no transfer." Other sources suggest Wright may leave Town for Celtic at a cost of £4 million perhaps even as soon as tomorrow. More when and if we hear it. |

Spurs centre-half John Scales looks set to decide whether he joins Town by Saturday. The former Wimbledon and Liverpool man, recently released by Spurs, is available on a free. He has spoken to George Burley, but has had offers from elsewhere including former club Wimbledon and Portsmouth. A move to a Premiership club would of course be attractive, but the 33-year-old may have to weigh up other factors. |

Town manager George Burley and Martijn Reuser begin talks this week on the terms on which the Dutch international will join the club. Town have already agreed a fee of £1 million with Vitesse Arnhem and the Blues hope to make the scorer of so many important goals at the end of last season Town's first signing of the close season. With Reuser keen to join Town and more money available to George Burley than ever before it seems unlikely that there will be any severe sticking point between the two sides. |
